Well congratulations fine people of Corstorphine and beyond, what a turnout at this year’s Corstorphine Fair, absolutely fantastic. All the worry about people being nervous to step out failed to materialise and the weather was perfect, perhaps too hot. We don’t know how our participating groups did yet, but please take a bow you lovely generous people, the donations given by yourselves, and children’s ride tickets broke all previous records, nearly £18,000, unbelievable, so generous. Also, thank you for remembering to bring cash. The committee get the message, you like the Fair and want it to come back! Also, the help clearing up, the committee left a slightly dirty St Margaret’s Park at 7pm on Saturday night, but after the volunteers came on Sunday morning to do a final sweep, the park was cleaner than we found it.
Of course, there are still things to work on, because of the success that meant queues were long at the rides and food stalls. Quite what we can do about that we are not sure? Easy answer would be to put in more rides and bring in commercial food outlets, but do we want our Fair to become a giant commercial gathering. We think not, the uniqueness of the Fair is the local participating groups doing their own thing, to raise their awareness and earn some cash for themselves. It has been suggested to move to the Gyle Park, but we love St Margaret’s Park!
Roll on 2024, we’ll be back. I have spoken to this year’s committee they are up for it, what a bunch of masochists! Also, had a couple of new volunteers wanting to help, it only get’s better.
